ASD Screening Questionnaire (M-CHAT-R)
M-CHAT-R
The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised (M-CHAT-R) is a validated screening tool1 used to help identify possible indicators of ASD in young children (between 16 and 30 months of age).
The M-CHAT-R consists of 20 yes/no questions that screen various social, communicative, and behavioural aspects of a child’s development. The questionnaire is typically filled out by a parent or caregiver and can be administered in a healthcare setting or completed online.
The M-CHAT-R helps identify potential indicators for ASD and aids in early detection, allowing for further evaluation and intervention if necessary. However, it is important to note that the M-CHAT-R is a screening tool and not a diagnostic tool. If a child is identified as being at risk for ASD based on the M-CHAT-R, further evaluation by an appropriately qualified psychologist or psychiatrist is recommended to either confirm or rule out a diagnosis of ASD.
