Live Webinar: Neurodiversity at Night: Causes and Consequences of Sleep Problems in Youth With Neurodevelopmental Conditions

Description of Webinar

Sleep challenges are nearly universal among children and teens with neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs), with up to 86% experiencing insomnia. But what does healthy sleep really look like in this population, and how can caregivers and professionals best promote it? Join us for an in-depth exploration of sleep in youth with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, trisomy 21, and other NDCs. We’ll cover the fundamentals of sleep science, the impact of poor sleep on daytime functioning (e.g., the effects on social communication), how to distinguish between a sleep disorder and a neurodevelopmental condition, and how to adapt insomnia treatment for neurodiverse individuals.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the two processes that lead to sleep;
  • List at least three reasons sleep may be disrupted in youth with NDCs;
  • Explain healthy sleep patterns in neurodiverse kids and teens; and
  • Discuss ways that insomnia treatment may be adapted for youth with NDCs.
